It was most encouraging to have sixty members, as well as a number of children, attend our last BBQ/Meeting for this season, at the residence of Paul and Liz Dujmovich at Upper Natone.  A highlight of the evening was the display of vintage Volkswagens arranged by Paul and the information given regarding individual models.

For the Natone and District community it was a wonderful opportunity to see vintage vehicles restored to pristine condition and to receive such qualified information as offered by Paul.

It is understood that Paul is still President of the Hawkesbury Historical Car Club in N.S.W. and one of his vehicles, a 1955 V.W. is presently on display at the Inveresk section of the Queen Victoria Museum.  The Watch welcomes Liz and Paul into our Community.

In relation to the BBQ., appreciation is recorded for the assistance given by Ant. Dry in transporting the seats needed for the function.

Another function that attracted attention was the “Community Open Day”, conducted by the local Stowport/Natone Fire Brigade.  A vintage fire engine, a fire trailer and the local unit were all on display, and valuable information was available on fire extinguishers and other details including Fire Permit procedures.

Food and other refreshments were readily available, and an excellent documentary was screened in the Natone Hall.  The documentary presentation was most impressive, particularly as regards the decision making process in deciding whether to vacate or stay to protect a home threatened by wild fire.  Footage regarding the devastating fires in Tasmania during the sixties was also displayed.

Sgt. Tustian gave a practical demonstration on the use of the speed camera and a number of children availed themselves of the opportunity to see how the camera operates and as an added bonus were able to view some of the equipment used by the Police in special circumstances.

The Watch congratulates Fiona Tustian and members of the Fire Brigade for arranging this special occasion.

Finally, as has been mentioned previously Neighbourhood Watch Tas. Inc., is holding a State Convention in Launceston, Saturday 16th June, 10.30pm to 3.30pm.

As registrations need to be made before MONDAY 7TH MAY, those intending to attend should submit details to Leonie Bramich, Secretary of the Western District Council, as early as possible.  Details of speakers and other matters have been included in this Newsletter.

A special bus will be arranged at no cost of those needing transport to attend the Convention.  Those attending need to submit $10 with their details.  The $10 is to cover the cost of morning tea, luncheon and material issued at the function.

As a member of the organising panel, I urge all those interested in the future of NHW in general to make every effort to attend.  Key not speakers have been arranged from many areas in Australia and the Convention should be a great success.

Leonie may be contacted on 64318615 or email:- magpie_watch@hotmail.com

Again thank you all for the wonderful support given to our Neighbourhood Watch group.

The next Watch meeting will be held at the Natone Primary School, 7th May, 2007, with Inspector Wynywood from District Response Division as Guest Speaker.

Looking forward to your company.
